Point in Time Count (PITC)

The Point-in-Time (PIT) count is a count of sheltered and unsheltered homeless persons on a single night in January. HUD requires that Continuums of Care conduct an annual count of homeless persons who are sheltered in emergency shelter and transitional housing on a single night. Continuums of Care also must conduct a count of unsheltered homeless persons every other year (odd-numbered years).

PIT data can provide insight into a community’s homeless population and service gaps. It provides a “snapshot” of what homelessness looks like on a single night in our community.

2026 Point-in-Time Count

On Thursday, January 22, 2026, the annual Point in Time Count (PITC) was conducted at outreach locations across Brevard County.

Thank you to all of our volunteers who helped make the Point in Time Count possible!

Each year, the BHC, along with partners and volunteers, counts both sheltered and unsheltered individuals experiencing homelessness on a single night in January. Although HUD only requires an unsheltered count every other year, we conduct it annually because it provides vital insight into community needs and service gaps.

The results of the 2026 PITC are now available! Please see the infographic below.
